FOUNDER’S OWN WORK
Life Is Temporary
A free app for Muslim families: what to do when someone dies, and how to prepare before that day.
- What it is
- Free guides, a directory and planning tools for Muslim families, on the web.
- Role
- Designed and built by Hamza Abdul‑Tawwaab. Published by Inheriting Islam LLC.
- Launched
- October 2026

Context
Islam asks that the washing, the janazah prayer and the burial come quickly after a death. In those same hours a family has calls to make and papers the law requires, often for the first time. Life Is Temporary puts the steps, the people to call and the rulings in one place, in plain words.
It is for families going through a death now, for people who want to leave their affairs in order, and for masajid and their funeral committees.
Our founder’s own project, published by Inheriting Islam LLC.
What Hamza built
- Step-by-step guides. For the first hours and days after a death: the United States, with notes for all 50 states and DC; the United Kingdom, with notes for each nation; and Canada, with notes for each province. Spanish, Urdu and Arabic versions of the US guide are marked as under review.
- A directory of Muslim funeral services. 478 funeral committees, funeral homes, cemeteries and burial funds in six countries, as of October 7, 2026. Only verified details are published: each listing is taken from its own public page and dated, and a detail that cannot be confirmed is left blank, never guessed.
- An Islamic inheritance calculator. It covers the four Sunni schools, Ḥanafī, Mālikī, Shāfiʿī and Ḥanbalī, and is tested against classical worked cases. Funeral costs, debts and any bequest come out first, and every rule it applies links to its source. It is not a fatwa; review by a qualified scholar is being arranged.
- A will draft builder. For the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada: name an executor, list what must be paid first, leave up to a third to causes and people who do not inherit, and get a typeset draft to take to an estate attorney and a scholar.
- Janazah and duʿāʾ. Guides to the janazah prayer and its duʿāʾ, a page for writing down your own janazah wishes, and a printable card of the four takbīrs.
- For masajid. A free directory listing, a noticeboard card with the funeral committee’s number, and a small card a masjid can add to its own website with two lines of code.
How it is built
A static site built with Astro and served from Cloudflare Pages.
- Private by design. Janazah wishes and the ticks on the guide’s checklist stay in the browser’s own storage and are never sent. The will builder sends nothing, and the calculator stores nothing.
- No tracking cookies. The site sets no tracking cookies, and serves its own fonts and illustrations.
- Checked data. Every directory listing is checked against a fixed schema before it is published, and an automated check runs every month and flags listings that need attention.
- Sources shown. Rulings link to their sources, and a sources page lists them in one place.
How it runs now
The site launched in October 2026 and is live. The directory count is from October 7, 2026 and changes as listings are added or removed. The Spanish, Urdu and Arabic guides are still under review, and review of the rulings by a qualified scholar is being arranged.
